The OKX Wallet extension is the official browser version of OKX's self-custody Web3 wallet. You install it from your browser's extension store, create or import a wallet, and then connect to DApps, swap tokens and manage assets on 140+ networks from your desktop. The most important step is making sure you install the real extension, because fake wallet extensions are one of the most common ways people lose crypto.
What the OKX Wallet extension is
OKX Wallet is separate from your OKX exchange account. The exchange account is custodial: OKX holds the keys and you log in with your account. OKX Wallet is self-custody: only you hold the keys, and nobody, including OKX, can recover a seed phrase you lose.
| OKX exchange account | OKX Wallet extension | |
| Who holds the keys | OKX | You |
| How you log in | Email or phone and password | Wallet password on this device; recovery by seed phrase, private key or social login |
| Used for | Buying, selling, P2P, Earn | DApps, DeFi, on-chain swaps, NFTs |
According to its Chrome Web Store listing, the extension supports Bitcoin, Ethereum and other EVM networks, Solana and Sui, can connect hardware wallets, and includes phishing detection and risk warnings for suspicious sites and transactions.
How to download and install the real extension
- Open the Chrome Web Store and search for OKX Wallet. Microsoft Edge can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store too.
- Before clicking install, check the listing: the website shown should be web3.okx.com and the developer email should end in @okx.com. A genuine listing has around a million users and thousands of ratings.
- Click Add to Chrome, read the permission prompt and confirm.
- Pin the OKX Wallet icon to your toolbar so you always open the same extension.
Never install a wallet extension from a link in an ad, a direct message or a "support" chat. Search the store yourself.
Three ways to set up the wallet
1. Create a new seed phrase wallet
The extension generates a recovery (seed) phrase. Write it on paper, in order, and store it offline. Do not screenshot it or save it to cloud notes. Anyone who sees it can take your funds.
2. Import an existing wallet
You can import a wallet with its seed phrase or a private key, or connect a hardware wallet. Only type a seed phrase into the extension itself, never into a website.
3. Social login (Google, Apple or email)
OKX also offers a wallet you open with a Google, Apple or email sign-in, without writing down a seed phrase first. OKX says the keys are created and held in a trusted execution environment and that it never sees your seed phrase or private key in plain text. The trade-off: if you lose access to that social account, you can lose access to the wallet. You can export a seed phrase later from the app or extension, but doing so permanently unlinks the social login from that wallet.
How to spot a fake OKX Wallet extension
- The listing links to a website other than web3.okx.com.
- Very few users or reviews, or reviews that all look the same.
- It asks for your seed phrase immediately after install "to verify" or "to sync". The real extension only asks when you choose to import a wallet.
- You reached it from an ad, a sponsored search result or a link someone sent you.
If you already entered a seed phrase into something suspicious, assume the wallet is compromised: create a new wallet on a clean device and move any remaining funds immediately.
Fixing "This extension may have been corrupted"
Chrome or Edge sometimes disables the extension with this message. OKX's help center says it is usually caused by a browser update glitch, not a security problem with your wallet. Its advice:
- Update the browser and restart it. This often restores the extension with your data intact.
- Do not click "Repair" straight away. Repair can reinstall the extension and remove the wallet data stored locally.
- If restarting does not help, back up your seed phrase or private key first, then reinstall the extension and import the wallet again. OKX's help article also explains how to back up the extension's local data folder before repairing.
Swapping in the extension and the invite discount
OKX Wallet has a built-in DEX for swapping tokens across networks. OKX runs a DEX referral program: when you join through an invite link, the code can give you a trading fee discount of 0–10% on DEX trades, set by the person who created the code and applied in real time. Our OKX Wallet invite link is a referral link: we may earn part of the fee, and it costs you nothing extra.
Safety checklist
- Keep only the amount you actively use in a browser wallet.
- Read every signature request; reject anything you did not start.
- Review and revoke old token approvals from time to time.
- Use a hardware wallet for larger amounts.
